Why Generator Rated in KVA but Motor in kW?

The Answer:

First of all, a Generator is not a fix load. It is variable. It's load depending on running load power factor so that it's load not calculate in kw. One more thing is that DG set produces power and motor consume power.

In addition to this, the generator generates apparent power which is composed with active power and reactive power and delivers it to the power network to meet demand. An electric motor takes part of that active power and its reactive component is a function of its power factor. A generator is possible to excite its field to deliver inductive or reactive capacity reactive power, an electric engine does not possess this particularity.
